World Poetry Day
Inspired by World Poetry Day, there have been a number of events celebrating poetry and the spoken word at Dulwich this term.
The Upper School Tribe Poetry competition saw each year group represent their tribe in a poetry recital. Visiting judge Mrs Lennon, Director of Drama at Benenden School had a very difficult task choosing the overall winners. With a range of poems from Emily Dickinson to Brian Moses there was something for everyone. Well done to the Deerfeet and Ojibwas who were joint winners overall.
Meanwhile there has been excitement afoot with the ‘Guess the Favourite Poem’ competition which ran over the last few weeks around the school. Members of staff put forward poems of their choice for the children to work out who chose what poem, by using the clues provided. They then had to decide which poem they liked best, and why.
A competition to write a poem based around the arrival of a new toaster in the staff room caused some hilarity, with some brilliant entries from children and staff.
Continuing the literary theme the children of Little Stream have been busy reading books as part of their Readathon fundraising efforts in aid of readforgood.org. They have raised a whopping £3,476.83, a truly amazing achievement.
