School Life
“Our school grows as we grow.”
Children start their journey with us in Nash House at the age of 3 and then move through Little Stream, between the ages of 5 to 8 before entering Upper School in the year they turn 9. As Charlie put it “our buildings grow as we grow.”
Growth is a recurring theme at Dulwich. Pastoral care is at the heart of what we offer our children and their families, and our ability to rigorously track and respond to the emotional and academic growth of our children throughout their time with us, is a genuine strength.
We have a very open culture, where children are encouraged to share thoughts and any concerns they might have. Our partnership with Place2Be means that conversations around well-being are common place in both Little Stream and Upper School.
Communication is incredibly important to us and we know it is for our parents, especially with increasing demands on working families. We have an open door policy across the whole school, and parents are always welcome into the school. There is usually a coffee morning with teachers every other week, as the Good Schools Guide pointed out ‘we are a highly caffeinated, sociable bunch.’
Our weekly newsletter not only captures what our children have been up to that week, but also highlights key future dates, and, if you just want a quick reminder of prep, our intranet is a vital communication tool, as is SOCS our online diary. We also recognise that many of our parents can’t come into school as often as they like, so we live stream key events, and we are social media fiends, so no-one misses out.
And there is certainly a lot going on! We are incredibly lucky to have a very dynamic, vibrant and friendly parent body who, like our children, continue to grow in their ambition and achievements. Our Friends Annual Quiz Night sold out in under 55 minutes!
