Butterfly art installation

Our Year 8 Leavers’ Project during lockdown was based on the theme of rainbows, which has been a strong image throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The symbol of a rainbow was chosen as it represents peace, serenity and change.

The children painted paper in the seven rainbow colours, adding patterns and and icons to show their own identity. Using origami folding methods, which promotes well-being and a way to unwind, the children created 7 butterflies. Butterflies in Art represent endurance, change, hope, and life – a fitting response to the current situation in the world.

The final installation has been created and hung outside the reception area of the school, reminding us all to show kindness, hope and solidarity for now, during the pandemic and for years to come.
