Our curriculum
Sports
“We want our children to love sport and relish their PE lessons as much as we do.”
The benefits of sport and being active are undisputed so we look to awaken in each child an enthusiasm for physical activity, develop their confidence, see their own potential and nurture a lifelong love of sport.
Firstly we seek to make sport fun and integral to daily life. We celebrate participation, enthusiasm, communication, team work and fair play as well as the physical skills learnt for each sport. And we make sure that every child experiences the pride of representing their school on the sports field. Last year we had over 607 sporting fixtures. All Little Stream children in Years 3 & 4 play every school fixture, and it isn’t unheard of to have every child in Upper School representing us on a given day.
We strive for excellence in all our coaching, and in combination with our extensive facilities, seek to support and guide children to be the very best they can be. We believe it is important to provide our children with the opportunity to compete locally, regionally and at a National level, and have currently several National age group winners across many disciplines including Triathlon, Swimming, Athletics & Cross-Country.
Our curriculum is as dynamic and diverse as possible to inspire each child and unlock potential, from basketball and badminton to gymnastics and golf through to water polo and windsurfing, as well as all the traditional core sports that you’d expect of a school like ours. And if by some chance we don’t offer the sport or activity that your child has a burning desire to undertake then please don’t hesitate to talk to us – as we’re fond of saying in the PE department – nothing is impossible.
Dulwich Inspires!
Looking for a new hobby? Not that keen on regular team sports? Then look no further, welcome to Dulwich Inspires! Launched in the Autumn Term 2018 for Upper School children, Dulwich Inspires! revolutionises our Wednesday afternoon programme.
All children can either opt to play competitive sport matches for the school, or choose from an exciting array of activities. The first half of term saw a choice of Outdoor Education adventures starting with the art of climbing, learning how to handle ropes and how to be safe; whilst experiencing many opportunities to develop problem solving and teamwork skills. And really good fun! For a real flavour of all that is on offer see our video below
Other options have included Healthy Eating. Our first session saw the children look at ways to reduce sugar by baking some seriously delicious banana muffins. In the meantime the Dulwich Get Active! team began work developing their own HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout; which will form the basis of a new DVD that the children will produce for the younger Little Stream children.
