End of Term Carol Service

As the whole church fell silent, the solo voice of Annabel Fisher floated across the church during ‘Once in Royal David’s City.’ This gave a splendid start to the wonderful Service. This was then followed with the harmonies of the Senior Chamber Choir for the second verse. The congregation enjoyed the Year 4 choir singing ‘Prince of Peace’. The brass quartet, with myself playing trombone and Fred Hamlyn on trumpet, accompanied the  carols for all to sing, this added a very vibrant feel. The Year 6 choir gave a stunning performance for the Traditional, Latin version of ‘Gaudete.’ James Pepler played amazing cello during the Year 5 choir’s rendition of ‘He Smiles Within his Cradle.’ The new Junior Chamber Choir’s ‘Kyrie Eleison’ echoed around the church. Another innovation of the Service was the Brass Quartet’s ‘Coventry Carol’. The Junior Chamber Choir started off ‘Silent Night’ for the congregation to finish. The massed choir of Years 5, 6 and Senior Chamber Choir all joined together to perform an enjoyable version of ‘Carol of the Bells’ This was hard as there were so many of us, however it worked out well. This led us towards the last musical event of the night, ‘Star Carol’ by Senior and Junior Chamber Choirs, it was a great end to the night. The Service would not be complete without the addition of the Bible Readers. The retired Chairmen of the Governors, Mr. Maidment, commented that ‘the readers were the best he had ever heard during his time with Dulwich!’ As head Choirboy of the Senior Chamber Choir, I would like to thank everyone that was involved with organising the choirs, musical elements and readings.
